The long-term work continues at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit – Quimper

Nine “workers of the Holy Spirit”, including three women, applied a treatment against termites to the 19 benches from the chapel of the EPSM in South Finistère (ex-Gourmelen hospital), Thursday, March 18, at the eponymous chapel.

These 19 massive oak benches (over 60 kg each) made in the Tarn are intended to last for centuries, hence the interest of this treatment. After cleaning with clean water, they were coated with this treatment product with its characteristic odor.

Four pairs of arms are needed to carry these benches (JEAN-JACQUES BERROU)

In addition, the second phase of the renovation of the building includes the repair of the roof, the framework and the interior vault, for an amount of 208,237 euros. The departmental council of Finistère has given an agreement in principle for a subsidy of 20,800 euros. Participation in the “Grand Prix Pèlerin du patrimoine” competition, sponsored by Stéphane Bern, brought in 8,000 euros. “Funding, far from being acquired, is on track,” comments Jacques Pensec, the president of the association, who is appealing to those who are passionate about religious heritage.

For the time being, 175 donors have contributed a total of € 48,655, out of a target of € 104,303, during a fundraising campaign launched via the website of the Heritage Foundation.
