The long-awaited World OCR Extreme Obstacle Course Championship has kicked off in Genk, Belgium. With a record number of participants from all continents, the prestigious event was distinguished by the abundance and variety of obstacles, and the perfect weather at Thor Park allowed for maximum results for all competitors. Although they lacked experience and cold nerves to win medals, all Lithuanian athletes gave themselves and perfectly represented the Lithuanian OCR sport in the 100 m, 3 km, 15 km and team 6 km distances.
I am happy that OCR Gargždai club representatives Renaldas Bugys, Ieva Želvytė, Donatas Ivanauskas, Modestas Gečas, Simonas Muižė and Antanas Gembutas represented our country together with other most capable Lithuanian athletes in the national team.
On the first day of the competition, in a sweltering 25 degree heat, the participants competed on a 3 km course. Thor National Park’s groomed course, once a coal mine, was full of upper-body obstacles that required nimble and strong hands and steady fingers. The organizers made an effort, so the last obstacle of vertical metal parallel bars with transitions on ropes in the short distance of 3 km became inoperable by 90%. participants. A total of 3.8 km and 23 obstacles were covered, including running, walls, ramps, Toroz kibis, spinning elements, laser gun shooting, vertical rope and horizontal rope complexes.
