The long-awaited MK4 3D printer by Josef Průša has finally been unveiled, and fans deem it worth the wait.

And it is out! Fans of 3D printers from Prusa Research finally got a new model after years of waiting Original Prusa MK4 and also superstructures MMU3 for multi-material production.

The news brings practically everything that the community has been feverishly speculating about. The MK4, like the other models, finally switches to 32-bit architecture with support Wi-Fi a ethernetreplaced the simple (albeit functional) character display colorful graphical interface and yes, the MK4, like the XL model, is armed with a completely redesigned extruder, ie I’ll be next!

Watch the official trailer for the new Original Prusa MK4 machine:

Smart Nextruder and easy nozzle replacement

The Nextruder is equipped with its own control electronics, so unlike its predecessors, it leads to the new xBuddy motherboard, which replaces the EINSY RAMBo, one a single bundle of cables. No more complicated disassembly when replacing the fan, etc.

But it will be the main attraction of Nextruder easy replacement of nozzles 0.25-0.8 mm, while definitely don’t throw away the existing V6 format ones, because you can find an adapter on the e-shop. The filament passes through the new extruder through a metal conductor, and the PTFE tubes, in which the string sometimes got stuck, have finally disappeared.

Enough eight-bits, now a 32-bit xBuddy board with an arm microcontroller from ST, ethernet and a slot for Wi-Fi module ESP-01 (ESP8266) will take care of printing.

The displacement of the filament drives precision planetary gearbox with a ratio of 10:1 and Nextruder, as in the case of the XL model, promises thanks to improved sensors accurate measurement of the first layer and fully automatic without the need for user intervention.

Finally, MK4 thanks to the new firmware (the so-called Input Shaper and Pressure Advance, viz blog) promises very high print speedwhich Josef Průša already boasted on his Twitter yesterday.

Multi-Material Upgrade 3

Thanks improved Prusa Connect and preparation for Wi-Fi and Ethernet, we will of course be able to control MK4 through the web interface and next generations Multi-Material Upgrade 3 (MMU3) takes care of automatic stringing.

The engineers from Holešovice originally wanted to release only a minor update of the MMU2S+, but in the end they completely rewrote the firmware, modified the plastic and metal parts according to feedback from the community, improved the electronics, and the Troika is now in the world, which should hopefully be more reliable than its predecessors.

And if a problem does occur, the MMU3 will first try to solve the problem itself, or, thanks to the improved two-way communication between the printer and the exchanger, it will display detailed error messages directly on the display. Until now, users had to decipher the sequence of blinking LEDs on the MMU.

Assembled printer now, kits and upgrades in spring

Assembled MK4 machines are already available on the e-shop for za 27,990 CZK. Within two weeks, a cheaper kit should be available for pre-sale 20,990 CZK. MMU3 will be up for grabs 7,990 CZK.

Owners of existing MK3S+ machines can pre-order upgrade kits with different levels:

Upgrade kits will actually be available in June 2023.
