The lonely pope

Pope Francis is hopelessly alone in punishing Europe’s treatment of refugees. The rest of us have got so much else to think about.

These are strong words the world’s most powerful religious leader uses when he – face to face with the refugees on Lesbos – urges us Europeans to “stop this shipwreck of civilization”.

For the pope sees that everything is now about strengthening our continent’s front against the refugees.
