For The New Yorker, confinement shows to what extent city life relies on the activity of essential workers whose importance too often goes unnoticed.
In recent weeks, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, “Millions of Americans have been told to shut down their businesses, avoid public gatherings and stay at home,” observe The New Yorker.

The cover illustration, titled “Lifeline”, was produced by Pascal Campion. She “Wink” to one of those workers who continued their mission during the coronavirus pandemic and highlights his place “In a silent metropolis”.
In its latest editions, The New Yorker had already honored health professionals on the cover, “Who have their own children and families”, with a cover designed by Chris Ware, and the way American cities “Saw their businesses, their subways and their public spaces become ghost spaces” with a cover on Grand Central Station designed by Eric Drooker.
