The London Metropolitan Police confirmed this Friday that its officers have carried out a controlled detonation of a suspicious package located in the vicinity of the United States Embassy in the British capital.

In a message on X, the Met indicated that the area near the North American legation in the United Kingdom has been cordoned off as a precautionary measure.

“We are aware of online speculation regarding an incident in the vicinity of the US Embassy in Nine Elms,” police said in a message.

The police force also indicated that “there is a police cordon installed in the area as a precaution while officers investigate a suspicious package.”
