It is a small revolution: for the first time in its history, the London Marathon will propose a non-binary category, as part of its 2023 edition. A category that can be chosen by the participants in this race, which will take place on April 23, 2023 .
As a reminder, non-binary refers to the refusal to be classified as a “man” or “woman” within society. In short, to break with the binary nature of genres, and therefore to challenge the stereotypes and injunctions that derive from it, in order to claim a fluid and non-fixed identity.
The “TCS London Marathon” therefore takes precedence over famous marathons, such as the one in Paris. Waiting for the capital to follow suit? Why not. However, London isn’t the only one to offer this category, as the world-famous Boston Marathon is also open to non-binary people.
“We know there are still many changes to be made, but this shows our commitment to making London an event open to all,” said Hugh Brasher, the race director, tells Le Figaro.
