The Lomé-Niamey axis strengthened on various socio-economic aspects with the visit of President Mohamed Bazoum to Togo – Togo-Presse

At the invitation of the Head of State, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, the Nigerien President, Mohamed Bazoum, made a visit of friendship and work in Togo focused on strengthening economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries which maintain excellent historical ties. The agenda of this visit was marked by several activities. At 1is day of his arrival, the two presidents visited the facilities of Lomé Container Terminal (LCT) at the Autonomous Port of Lomé, before the host went to the Maison du Hadj the next day, then to the place of the conferences of Lomé, where he had exchanges with his Nigerian compatriots residing in Togo. These visits were interspersed with face-to-face meetings between the two Heads of State and in-depth exchange sessions on subjects relating to bilateral, continental and international issues. JOINT COMMUNIQUE SANCTIONING THE FRIENDSHIP AND WORKING VISIT OF HIS EXCELLENCY MOHAMED BAZOUM, PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF NIGER, HEAD OF STATE

1- At the invitation of His Excellency Mr. FAURE ESSOZIMNA GNASSINGBE, President of the Togolese Republic, His Excellency Mr. MOHAMED BAZOUM, President of the Republic of Niger, Head of State, paid a friendly and working visit to Togo, March 20 and 21, 2023.

2- During this visit, the two Heads of State had in-depth discussions during which they discussed subjects relating to bilateral, continental and international issues.

3- In this context, they decided to create a Joint Cooperation Commission and to hold its first session during the last quarter of 2023 in Lomé. They also instructed their ministers in charge of security and defense to meet as soon as possible in Niamey to share experience in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

4- The two Heads of State also asked their ministers in charge of transport, trade and finance to hold a meeting in two weeks in Niamey to examine issues related to the transport of goods and the Lomé-Niamey corridor .

5- Analyzing the situation in the sub-region, Presidents MOHAMED BAZOUM and FAURE ESSOZIMNA GNASSINGBE reiterated their commitment to work together, in concert with their peers, to facilitate the free movement of people and goods within ECOWAS and the full achievement of the objectives set by the creation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAf).

6- Reaffirming their attachment to democratic principles, they reiterated their support for the continuation of the transition processes under way in Mali, Burkina Faso, the Republic of Guinea and Chad, with a view to a return to constitutional order in these brother countries.

7- The two Heads of State called for the intensification of cooperation and partnership at the bilateral and multilateral levels in the fight against transnational organized crime, terrorism, illicit trafficking in arms, drugs and human beings. humans.

8- Elsewhere on the continent, Presidents MOHAMED BAZOUM and FAURE ESSOZIMNA GNASSINGBE deplored the situation of persistent tension in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo. In particular, they called for respect for the ceasefire and supported the various initiatives aimed at establishing lasting peace in the region.

9- At the international level, the two Presidents expressed their deep concerns about the economic, health, security and climate crises facing the world. They urged all countries to combine their efforts to overcome these crises and called on developed countries in particular to respect their commitments in the areas concerned.

10- At the end of his visit, His Excellency Mr. MOHAMED BAZOUM expressed to his brother and friend, His Excellency Mr. FAURE ESSOZIMNA GNASSINGBE, to the Government and to the Togolese people, his sincere thanks and his deep gratitude for the particularly warm and fraternal welcome. reserved for him and the accompanying delegation.

11- President MOHAMED BAZOUM invited his brother and friend, His Excellency Mr. FAURE ESSOZIMNA GNASSINGBE, President of the Togolese Republic, to pay a visit to Niger.

12- President FAURE ESSOZIMNA GNASSINGBE accepted this invitation with good grace. The date of this visit will be set later through diplomatic channels.
