The Lockerbie bombing suspect, charged in the United States, does not face the death penalty

A Libyan who was moved to the United States to respond to the Lockerbie bombing that killed 270 people in Scotland in 1988 does not face the death penalty, a federal prosecutor said on Monday.

Capital punishment was not available in 1988 at the federal level for the charges against Abu Agila Mohammad Massoud Al-Marimi, he explained during a brief hearing in a Washington court.
