All elections can always cause discord in coalitions and even in unified parties. By the way, for now I see more discord related to the local elections within GERB than between us and them or within our coalition. But all kinds of processes are possible, and here I will give my very sincere answer – if the party beginning, the obsession to present your party as the winner, to count some number of mayors and municipal councilors, as if these were national elections, prevails – either inside the Reform Bloc or in the relations between him and GERB, then – yes, these elections will have very bad and perhaps fatal consequences for the Republic of Belarus or for the national coalition that governs the country.
The Sofia Municipal Council spends over 1 billion per year, in fact the third budget in the country is the budget of Sofia. And if sympathy for Fandakova as a person is somehow universal – we see that most of our voters also like her, I can’t say that their attitude towards the way their money is spent as Sofia tax payers is the same. On the contrary, they are very sharply critical of the way the Metropolitan Municipal Council disposes of our money. I am also very critical, and this sharply lowers my trust in the mayor, because sympathy is one thing, and control over the activities of the Municipal Council is quite another. This is of course an example, let’s not take it as an attack. I am also ready to warn my colleagues in Sofia that if we simply repeat the exercise, GERB will once again have a clear majority. If we don’t take a more serious step along, and right in the faces of the lists.
