The little story of the first names of Charlotte Gaccio’s children

Choosing a name for your unborn baby can be obvious, a long search, or even, turn into a headache. Imagine the situation of future parents in the context of a twin pregnancy! This, the actress Charlotte Gaccio knew. It was 4 years ago and then she had to find a girl’s name and a boy’s.

Charlotte, how did you choose the names of your children?

The first name Zoe, we had in mind for 10 years. We heard it on TV with my husband. He said “it’s pretty Zoe” and I immediately replied “yes, it’s pretty Zoe”. So it was quick and we kept it aside all these years. On the other hand, it took a long time to agree on a boy’s name. We wanted a first name with an Italian sound, in connection with my origins, which does not require taking a particular accent to pronounce it. We liked Giovani, but you have to accentuate the A and not everyone does. I proposed Romeo, a name that my parents (actress Michèle Bernier and screenwriter Bruno Gaccio) had considered for my little brother (they finally opted for Enzo). They were afraid that he would hear remarks about Romeo and Juliet over and over again, and had given up for it. For us, the idea took a long time to gain ground, but it stuck. And then Zoe and Romeo, it goes well, so it was perfect.

Is there a first name that you didn’t agree with at all?

I dreamed of a little Oscar. I thought it was going well with Zoe, but it didn’t go well, my husband really doesn’t like it. I did everything to make him accept, even the humor “but look, on the birth announcement, we can mark that we had an Oscar” but no … (laughs).
Oscar remains a name that I adore and who knows? As we get older and if we have a third child, will my husband eventually change his mind? If not, well we’ll have a hard time again, because really, agree on a male first name, it was complicated. We could have 15 daughters without a problem, but not the other way around.

Little one, did you like your first name?

I had a moment when I didn’t like it too much, but I don’t know why … On principle, perhaps, to be annoying. I like the fact that there hasn’t been a fad of the first name Charlotte. It has crossed the generations, there I did a shoot and there were three of us Charlotte: one 60 years old, one 30 years old and one 20 years old! I waited until last year to have another Charlotte in my class, so it was, I had a pretty good time.

Do you know why your parents called you Charlotte?

My mother loved this name, she had always said to herself “if I have a daughter, I will call her Charlotte”. And I understand her, it’s a sweet, joyful, classic name with no negative connotations. And it’s also the name of a cake and that’s cool (laughs).
