Brigitte Dethier has staged numerous plays for children and young people. She is known to the Lucerne audience through the multi-part “Ring-Ding”. Now she is bringing the Christmas classic “The Little Lord” about friendship, sincerity and love to the stage in a production that is as playful as it is touching.
New York in the 19th century: The streets are dirty and loud, the differences between rich and poor clearly visible. Cedric Errol lives with his mother in a modest neighborhood. He can’t remember his father because he died when Cedric was very small. But he has two best friends who are always by his side: the shoeshine boy Dick Tiptoe and the shopkeeper Mr. Hobbes. The latter is always well informed and explains world events to the other two. They are an ideal trio. Cedric couldn’t imagine his life being better.
A boy and his grandfather learn from each other
But suddenly a strange gentleman stands in front of the boy and explains to him that he should become a real lord. His grandfather is the Count of Dorincourt, who wants to bring his grandson to England and raise him to be his heir. So Cedric sets out with his mother across the ocean to the Old World.
And this world is completely different than expected. The grandfather reads the boy’s every wish. Cedric doesn’t notice that the old man is hard-hearted towards other people. Through his love and carefree attitude, the little lord manages to soften the big lord’s heart. They both learn from each other to be good nobles. Until the moment a strange woman appears on the property and Cedric’s fate changes again.
