On the occasion of the Heritage Days of September 18 and 19, we invite you to rediscover the sometimes overlooked gems of 18th century Lyon architecture.

At that time, the city of Lyon was a large provincial capital whose contemporary face began to emerge. Bourgeois houses and mansions see the light of day. Soufflot remodels the Loge du Change, equips the Hôtel-Dieu with its large dome and a monumental facade overlooking the Rhône. More discreet, the vestiges of the riding academy of Bourgelat, the attic of abundance or some very beautiful little-known staircases also testify to this time.

Like the rest of the kingdom, Lyon experienced strong urban growth in the 18th century. Second city in France and one of the largest cities in Europe, it had around 130,000 inhabitants in the years 1760-1780. La Fabrique Lyonnaise also experienced a period of strong growth in the first part of the 18th century: Lyon became the French luxury workshop.
