On August 12-14, in Bydgoszcz, Poland, the World Kayak and Canoe Rowing Masters Championship was held, where the representatives of the Klaipėda region sports club “Sportuok su Sigitu” shone: Aida Vilimienė, Sigitas Bulovas, Verner Šermokas and Gintautas Šiaškus. The athletes competed in the 500 and 200 m events, where they won various prizes in their age groups.
Sigitas won gold medals together with Werner, rowing 500 m double kayak! The Lithuanian national anthem was played during the award ceremony. In the 200 m race, this double was third. Sigitas and Aida took 2nd place in the mixed double kayak 200 m event. Aida won two bronze medals (500 and 200 m) while paddling a single-person kayak. Sigitas, Werner and Gintautas, together with Gintaras Kaminskas, won a silver medal in 500 m rowing in a four-person kayak.
Achievements of other Lithuanian representatives at the World Masters Championship: Trakai rower Evgenij Sokolovskij took second place in the 200 m single kayak event. Bronislovas Ivanauskas from Kaunas in a pair with Nina Hryhorieva from Ukraine won 3rd place in the mixed kayak 200 m event. After summarizing the results, Lithuania took a respectable 7th place in the overall standings. The most medals went to representatives of Poland and Ukraine.
The World Championships of Kayaking and Canoeing Masters is a prestigious competition for veterans of kayaking and canoeing, which gathers athletes from all continents of the world. We are proud of the Lithuanian masters who bring medals of various colors to Lithuania every year. The next top-level competition, the European Masters Games, will be held in Tampere (Finland) in 2023.
