Jakarta: Have you ever experienced toothache? It feels uncomfortable, right? Toothache is a health problem that commonly occurs in society and can be triggered by many factors, but usually due to cavities or inflammation of the gums due to plaque buildup.
This problem can usually be overcome by seeing a dentist and prevented by maintaining dental hygiene.
But did you know that toothache doesn’t always only cause problems in the mouth? Teeth have various parts consisting of enamel, gums, roots, and nerves which are of course also connected by blood circulation to the brain’s nerves.
So this will also make it possible that toothache can spread and cause certain problems in other organs, one of which is the heart.

How are toothache and heart disease related?
Dr. Sanny March Silaban, Sp.JP, Heart and Blood Vessel Specialist from Eka Hospital Pekanbaru explained, although it seems unrelated because the teeth and heart are located far apart, in fact toothache can also cause heart disease if not treated immediately, especially if an infection has attacked gums too.
How could this happen? Dr. Sanny March said that teeth and gums are organs consisting of important components such as nerves and blood vessels that are connected throughout the body.
If the infection that occurs in the teeth or gums has reached the nerves, the bacteria can risk spreading and attacking other organs through the blood.
For example, gum inflammation is caused by a buildup of plaque and bacteria. Most people think this is a normal problem with the mouth, but what is not widely known is that if bacterial infections have reached the nerves, they can enter and flow in our blood circulation.
If the bacteria reaches the heart, it will cause heart and blood vessel infections.
This not only applies to gums, but also dental problems including cavities that have not been treated. Bacterial infections become very serious when they damage the heart and blood vessels because they can cause serious heart problems such as heart failure.
