The Lingering Effects of COVID-19: A Case Study on Cyanotic Heart Disease and its Long-Term Impact

Corona infection was associated with long-term symptoms, and many cases were recorded of patients who recovered from the virus, but later encountered unexpected health problems, in a phenomenon that doctors called “Long Covid” or “Long-term Corona.”

In one of these cases, a patient who recovered from the Corona virus developed “cyanotic heart” disease, in which the patient’s skin sometimes appears blue due to the deoxygenated blood that bypasses the lungs and enters directly into the great circulation.

One minute after the patient stands, his legs begin to redden, then turn blue, and his veins become more prominent outside, and then he suffers itching, according to the case highlighted by the British “Sky News” network.

The condition lasts for about 10 minutes, then his legs return to normal after two minutes of sitting or lying down.

The patient was also diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia, which causes an abnormal increase in heart rate when standing.

The patient’s condition was documented in new research published in the scientific journal “The Lancet”.

“It is important to raise awareness of cyanotic heart disease as a potential long-term side effect of COVID-19,” said Dr. Manoj Sivan, from the University of Leeds, UK.

“Covid 19” affects multiple systems in the body, including the autonomic nervous system responsible for regulating blood pressure and heart rate.

It can also affect patients’ ability to concentrate and perform basic daily activities.
