Rocker Pate Mustajärvi, 68, talks about the limitations of life in a recent interview with Kirkko ja kaupunki magazine.
Mustajärvi has realized that he wants to use the remaining time sensibly. For example, taking care of one’s own health has been emphasized by parents.
– If the body or cabbage gets stuck, the older you get, the harder it is to untie the jam. Then you find yourself on the bottom of the couch and can’t get up anymore. I no longer want to allow myself to do that, Mustajärvi told Kirkko ja Kaupungi.
The rocker, who turned years in the summer, deals with aging and death through humor. For a few years now, Mustajärvi has directly cultivated the writer Tuomas Kyrö’s expression: “The stern wall can already be seen”. During the interview, I also remembered the situation from a few years ago. Mustajärvi pushed uphill with his walking sticks and heard a Yankee car approaching.
– I turned to look, and there came a Dodge Challenger with a half-assed guy behind the wheel. He pushed the button to open the electric window and asked if the sticks would die. I had to say yes actually! Mustajärvi laughed.

The interview also touched on Mustajärvi’s career changes. He left Popeda exactly one year ago. Behind moving to the side is the idea of life’s limitations and aging.
– You have to understand how to walk away from the stage before someone hits you, Mustajärvi stated to Kirkko ja kaupuni.
Pate Mustajärvi played his last gig with Popeda in September 2023 at the Tampere stadium. He co-founded the band in the 1970s.
