Beijing: President Xi Jinping has told the country’s people that there is a ray of hope ahead of us amid the growing number of Covid cases in China. On Saturday, he addressed the nation on New Year’s Eve.
“Infectious disease prevention and control is entering a new phase. Everyone is working with determination. There is a ray of hope ahead of us,” Xi said. This is the second time she has addressed the nation after the upsurge of covid in the country. Speaking to the media on Monday, she called for effective measures to save people’s lives.
This month, three years after the first Corona virus outbreak in Wuhan, China, the government is set to lift strict Covid restrictions in the country. Older people are more often admitted to hospitals in China due to the Covid-19. Cemeteries are full and many pharmacies across the country are facing shortages of medicines.
China reported more than 7,000 new cases of Covid and one death on Saturday. But there are still allegations that the figures provided by the country are not real. Officials have announced that the mandatory quarantine imposed on travelers arriving in China will end from January 8, allowing Chinese people to travel abroad after three years of frustration. Following this, several European countries including France, Italy, the United States and Japan have announced that they will make negative Covid certificates mandatory for travelers from China.
