The light moped loses to the moped now that the helmet is mandatory from 2023 anyway | Economy

The sale of mopeds is in complete decline now that from 1 January 2023 you will also have to wear a helmet on these types of scooters. The sale of mopeds also benefits. Nearly 30,000 copies were sold in the first three quarters of this year. Something that hasn’t happened since 2009.

The number of mopeds sold has dropped to almost 26,000. “This is the lowest total for the months from January to September in more than fifteen years,” say BOVAG and the RAI Association.

Sales of the total number of scooters, which include both mopeds and light mopeds, decreased by 13%. More and more people are opting for an electric variant. This was the case in nearly half of all cases this year.

With a moped you can travel 25 kilometers per hour and you don’t have to wear a helmet until the new year. For mopeds, which are allowed at 45 kilometers per hour, a helmet is already mandatory. There is also a scooter variant that you can take on the highway: a motorcycle. It is not in these numbers.
