The “trial of the homeless” resumed at the Deux-Sèvres assizes. This Monday, November 16 in the morning, Advocate General Thierry Phelippeau requested life imprisonment against Thierry n. and Loan M., the maximum penalty, with a safety period of 22 years. They are the two main defendants of four barbaric murders committed in the city center of Niort in 2016, the Saint-André hill district.
From eight years in prison to life
Regarding Loïc C. implicated in two of the murders, the Advocate General considers that his responsibility is mitigated by his intellectual disability, he requires 20 years of imprisonment with a safety period of two thirds. Sixteen years of imprisonment are required against Christophe M. tried for having participated in the first murder, that of Damien P.
Finally, the Advocate General requested a sentence of eight years in prison against Gilbert R., the one who denounced the facts to the police station, an act hailed several times during the trial even by civil parties and accused of having beaten the last victim, Vincent P.
From April 10 to May 17, 2016 the peaceful city of Niort, where life is good, becomes the theater of the inexpressible – Thierry Phelippeau, General Counsel
Between two plexiglass panes, the Advocate General recalls that even if it is not always easy to determine the role of each and that not all have acted in the same proportions, the deaths being linked to multiple factors, “each accused who has been beaten must be considered a co-perpetrator because he participated in the fatal process”, believes Thierry Phelippeau.
He’s talking about “some of the most serious crimes”, of “crimes against humanity with a small h, crimes against humans”, recalling the body parts fed to dogs, “supreme insult to humanity”.
This day of hearing continues with the pleadings of the defense lawyers. The verdict is expected this Tuesday.
