Liepaja Puppet Theater started this season with a new artistic director, former Latvian National Theater actress Lieni Gāliņa. She is committed to giving the team creative challenges and opportunities for growth, playing in various techniques and collaborating with experienced and new generation directors.

Dmitry Petrenko’s production “Dauka. Good Questions” is intended to attract an audience that has not so far been directed – teenagers – to the Puppet Theater, by discussing with them after the show about irregularities, forgiveness and other topics that may not be been discussed in the family.

“If we want young people to look a little deeper, to seek horizons to look wider, we have no other options than to look for a way to reach them.

I have four children myself and I want them to see more of what is readily available, “said Liene Gāliņa, artistic director of the Liepāja Puppet Theater.

As there are only 60 seats in the audience hall of the Liepāja Puppet Theater, many outings are also planned this season, playing in Latvian educational institutions and earning money in addition to the grants granted by the municipality. Ticket prices have already been raised earlier this year, so for now, for fear of losing spectators, there are no plans to increase them, however, the issue of increasing energy resources and salaries of the actors is painful.

Liepāja Puppet Theater director Lelde Vīksna admitted:

“Well, we can’t make money to pay people decent wages, so they don’t have to look for other ways to make money.

Therefore, actors do not have the opportunity to fully devote themselves to this work, if they have to think about how to find an opportunity to make money elsewhere. We will certainly ask the local government for help to raise the salary. “

However, the Liepāja Puppet Theater welcomes the new season in an upbeat and lively mood: it has managed to find a new colleague and fill all seven seats in the acting staff, and there are currently no restrictions on meeting the public. in person and indulge in the joy of playing.
