The coordinator of the national vaccination campaign against COVID-19, doctor Valeriu Gheorghiţă, estimates that 40% of the Romanian population has gone through the infection caused by coronavirus. “We have a cumulative level of immunity that probably exceeds 50% at the moment, maybe even close to 60%. But it is not enough to control the number of cases in the conditions in which the Delta variant is dominant “, he told DIgi24, quoted by news.ro.
Gheorghiță also pointed out that in the last week, 745,000 people were vaccinated with the first dose.
“In the last 7 days there are about 745,000 new people who have been vaccinated and there are two important reasons, the perception of the risk of disease has changed considerably, in the sense that people are much better aware of the complicated epidemiological situation, the risk of disease, the risk of complications and the risk of getting to the hospital, given that we see that the medical system has reached its maximum capacity, especially in the ATI wards. The second aspect is the implementation of the digital green certificate at national level for access in certain types of spaces and for certain activities “, said Valeriu Gheorghiţă, quoted by news.ro.
The coordinator of the national vaccination campaign gave the example of France and pointed out that with the introduction of the digital green certificate, the number of people scheduled for vaccination has increased.

Gheorghiţă stated that in Romania there are 1.6 million people who have been confirmed with COVID-19.
“Currently we have over 1.6 million confirmed people. Behind a positive case we are talking about four or five cases that are unreported, undiagnosed. Which means that we are talking about a percentage of 40 of the population that would have gone through the disease, both known and unknown, which means approximately 8 million people “, said Valeriu Gheorghiţă.
