The Leonberg Dream Palace Breaks Guinness World Record for Largest IMAX Screen

The largest screen in the world is in the Leonberg Dream Palace! The Imax screen with a viewable area of 39 by 21 meters sets the Guinness World Record. Not Sydney, not San Francisco, not London or Los Angeles, but in Leonberg! There are free tickets for the “Gäubote” family tour today.

The final world record size of the screen in Leonberg was calculated in a strictly documented measurement. The Lochmann Filmtheaterbetriebe had applied for the title of the largest Imax screen in the world – with a screen size of almost 815 square meters.

The managing director of Lochmann Filmtheaterbetriebe Marius Lochmann was overjoyed: “Great, we did it! Of course we had the world record in mind during the planning and development phase and hoped for this award. The fact that it was really enough and that we are number one worldwide is phenomenal!”

Where the sound already before
can be felt by listening

On September 30, 2021, the doors to the Imax in the Traumpalast Leonberg opened for the first time. In the first 365 days, more than 50 different films from different genres with more than 2,000 hours of film were shown. Top Gun: Maverick was an all-time favorite, captivating fans from around the world who traveled from all over the world just for the Imax experience. So far, more than 150,000 visitors have admired the world’s largest screen in Leonberg and laughed, cried and trembled with their film heroes.

But not only the size of 39 by 21 meters is impressive, the technology is also impressive: the high-resolution 4K projection sets optical standards. It creates razor-sharp images, extreme contrast and delivers the widest color gamut available to filmmakers to intensify the most diverse, exotic colors and make them shine. The latest twelve-channel sound technology, which makes even background noise audible, ensures an even greater range of contrast and dynamic sound, the breadth of which can be felt before you hear it.

The Lochmann Filmtheaterbetriebe consist of the eight Traumpalast cinemas in Schorndorf, Waiblingen, Backnang, Schwäbisch Gmünd, Leonberg, Esslingen, Nürtingen and Biberach as well as the Löwenlichtspiele Rudersberg and the Passage Kino Hamburg. In the spring of 2022, the “Bowl & Co” bowling center also opened in Leonberg. In addition to current top films, the Traumpalast cinemas also offer a culturally demanding film programme. In all Lochmann cinemas, the focus of the cinema experience is the special feel-good concept, which is embodied, for example, by artistic wall paintings or particularly comfortable cinema lounge chairs.
