The tragedy occurred on the morning of November 16th. Rodax died under the wheels of a train traveling at a speed of 150 kilometers per hour. The driver didn’t have a chance to slow down in time.
The Austrian media write that it is suicide. Gerhard Rodaks, who was 57 years old, arrived at the scene of his death in his car and climbed onto the railroad tracks in front of the train. The probable reason for this decision is called a serious illness, which the man discovered the day before.
During his football career, Rodax played for Austrian Rapid and Admira Wacker, as well as Atlético. He only spent one season in Madrid, because then in Spain there was a strict limit for foreign players. As part of the national team, he played 20 matches and remains the author of the last winning goal of Austria in the final rounds of the World Cup – against the USA (2: 1) at the 1990 World Cup.
