Belmondo was born in 1933 in the suburbs of Paris to a family of sculptor and painter.
He was one of the most prominent actors of the French new wave. Belmondo attended several elite private schools, but did not stand out with significant achievements.
He was more interested in sports and as a teenager Belmondo turned to a boxing career. After suffering from tuberculosis, he became interested in acting and entered the elite State Academy of Dramatic Arts.
After graduating, he started working in the theater. Belmondo was a popular film actor in France until the mid-1980s. In 2001, the actors were hospitalized with a heart attack.
