Legendary French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo has died at the age of 88, AFP reports. The news was confirmed by his lawyers.

During his more than half-century film career, Belmondo became a film legend, starring in films such as “Until His Last Breath”, “Chocharka”, “Crazy Piero”, “The Professional”.

Belmondo’s name became synonymous with the new wave of cinema in the 1960s. The star of the actor, born in 1933 in the Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine, rose under the direction of Jean-Luc Godard, who entrusted him with a leading role in his film “Until the Last Breath”.

Belmondo is only 27 years old, and the invitations for many more films are not late. Much of his career was spent in rivalry with another star of French cinema – Alain Delon. The two made two films together – “Borsalino” (1970) and “Fathers Trembling” (1998).

Belmondo has an extremely rich film and theater career. He has starred in over 80 films and has over 40 roles in the theater.
