The Legacy of Gerry Marsden and The Pacemakers: Remembering “You’ll Never Walk Alone”

In January 2021, Gerry Marsden, the singer of the group “The Pacemakers” passed away (see Singer Gerry Marsden (Gerry and the Pacemakers) passed away). The title “You’ll never walk alone” immediately rang in the back of my mind. Today I brought the piece in today’s music to the.

Gerry and the Pacemakers was a band from Liverpool, England, in the 1960s that belonged to the Merseybeat. Gerry Marsden and his brother Freddie from Liverpool formed the band The Mars Bars. With the choice of the name, they hoped for support from a well-known confectionery manufacturer.

As life goes, the manufacturer threatened them with a lawsuit instead. So the two changed the band name to The Pacemakers (the pacemakers). Other members of the band were pianist Arthur Mack, who was soon replaced by Les Maguire. Added to this was bass guitarist Les Chadwick.

From 1963 to 1966 they had a string of hits. Her first three singles How Do You Do It, I Like It und You’ll Never Walk Alone were all number 1 in the UK in 1963. They were thus used until the breakthrough of the Rolling Stones 1964 to the most important competition of the Beatles in Great Britain.

In today’s music for Sunday I have the title from 1963 You’ll Never Walk Alone, which every blog reader has surely heard. The title is up YouTube is available. Enjoy listening and reminiscing.
