/ world today news/ There is no strong state without the basic leftist principles – freedom, justice, solidarity
“The left-wing idea in Bulgaria is more important than political projects and participation in power.” This was stated by the chairman of the BSP, Mihail Mikov, in the program “Free Zone” on TV+ with host Georgi Koritarov. According to the leader of the left, there are few parties in the world that have a 125-year history. “When there is consistency and ideas are more important than personas, that’s when you survive for so long,” he explained. The socialist added that the left identity is increasingly turning the BSP into that necessary left opposition center around which various political subjects gravitate, which are not only from the BSP LEFT BULGARIA.
“The main principles underlying the leftist idea are its roots – freedom, justice, solidarity. There cannot be a strong state when those who cannot cope in the free market are not supported,” said the chairman of the BSP. He pointed to another significant problem facing Bulgaria – the demographic catastrophe. “After 2030, we will decrease by 80,000 per year if serious measures are not taken.” There should be more justice – the rich should pay more, and the poor should be helped by the state”, explained the vision of the BSP, the leader of the socialists.
He was categorical that the neoliberal trend of the 1980s is already exhausted and the majority of Bulgarian citizens want to change the status quo in the country, which is killing the prospects and the economy in the country against the background of the demographic trend and immigration. The leader of the socialists recalled the fact that, at the request of the BSP, President Plevneliev promised to convene the National Assembly on the demographic catastrophe. “Last year, the government ran away from a commitment related to the demographic crisis, even though there was a decision of the parliament that obliged it to propose short-term measures, not strategies, as the social minister Kalfin likes, who rejects everything for after three governments,” stressed Mikov . He was adamant that at the moment the European welfare state has ended. “However, change can happen with a return to the roots, with a different upbringing of society. People should realize that politics is an expression of their interests and not only of power struggles and games,” the BSP chairman also said.
Right-wing politics drive people out of the country
The leader of the socialists also stated that there is serious pressure of capital on labor both globally and in our country. “In Bulgaria, the GDP in terms of purchasing power is 2.4 times lower than the European average, and the salary in our country is 4.8 times lower than the European average,” he explained. According to him, the social-liberal formula for governing the country is also exhausted. “The crisis after 2009 exacerbated inequalities, intensified poverty, led to a demographic catastrophe, there is no perspective for Bulgaria”, said Mikhail Mikov categorically. The socialist notes with regret that in such a situation, many see only one way out – “packing up the luggage and heading to the European market”.
According to the leader of the socialists, the model of state management should be sought in the expectations of the Bulgarian citizens. “People want a different policy in health care, education. According to exported data, Bulgarians are in first place in terms of out-of-pocket costs for health care, beyond what is paid as health insurance individuals. In education, universal accessibility was replaced by the promotion of private education and payment from public funds,” Mikov explained. He was categorical that the BSP offers alternatives in the field of health care, education, and a number of others.
Mihail Mikov also touched on the subject of the withdrawn BGN 16 billion debt from Borisov’s government. “This debt must be returned after 2022 and now the rulers should not count on the fact that the people will forget who should return them,” he commented.
Whole organizations in ABV are beginning to return to us, disappointed by the right-wing politics they have pursued
Mihail Mikov was categorical that with ABV – things are extremely clear. “The fact that there are former members of the BSP in it cannot in any way disprove the thesis that they participate in the conduct of right-wing politics in a right-wing coalition”, he explained and added that in many municipalities where they have councilors, they themselves they participate in right-wing majorities and there is no way the left can coalition with them. “Otherwise we would be lying to our voters,” Mikov said. He was adamant that when you say you’re leftist, you have to stand for leftist politics. “Entire organizations in ABV are starting to return to us, their argument being disappointment with their inclusion in ABV and the right-wing policy they are promoting,” emphasized the BSP leader.
The idea that a new partnership of the BSP with the DPS is being prepared is a suggestion
When asked whether a new partnership of BSP and DPS is being prepared, the leader of the socialists was categorical that such a thesis is a suggestion. “In the opposition, they are our partner and it is known that together with the DPS we submitted a vote of no confidence in the government”, Mikov commented. According to him, when talking about partnership in politics, the principles that are upheld are important. “There is a fundamental basis – the socio-economic status of the people who vote for the two parties,” said the leader of the Socialists. He recalled one of the social initiatives of the left in the Oresharski cabinet, namely the proposal for a 10% tax-free minimum for the minimum wage, which was also accepted as a sign of fairer taxation.
According to him, when commenting on coalitions, the question is always: “For what policy?”. “Otherwise, from the mechanical assembly “who is with whom” is visible – we see today what GERB and its coalition friends are doing. Everything they promised a year and a half ago, no one remembers anymore. Why don’t they go back to what they promised, so that Borisov can justify some political cause of this administration, and not power for the sake of power”, commented Mikhail Mikov.
Europe failed the test by signing the refugee agreement with Turkey
Regarding the refugee crisis, Mikhail Mikov said that the BSP’s position is extremely clear. “Those who are truly refugees deserve help and support. The case of economic immigrants, stimulated by some large European countries to look elsewhere for a livelihood, is more particular. This issue should be considered at a European level, because there have even been claims that there is a reluctance to revise the Dublin Agreement”, commented the leader of the Socialists.
Regarding the agreement between Turkey and the EU, the chairman of the BSP said that Europe failed the test with it. “With it, a third country, outside the EU, was given the opportunity to select who to let in and who to take back, and Bulgaria’s interest was not protected, like that of Greece,” Mikov explained.
Russia does not see an enemy in Bulgaria
According to the BSP leader, after the visit of party representatives to Russia, two messages were formed. One is that they are looking for contacts with the Russian Federation, contacts with a party that also wants to have progressive taxation there, such as “Just Russia”. The other message from our visit there is that Russia views Bulgaria as a friendly country. Mikov added that the Russian Federation will look for ways to develop normal relations with our country and expects similar behavior from Bulgaria.
Sanctions against Russia are hypocrisy
Regarding the sanctions against Russia, Mikhail Mikov said that the BSP is against them because they do not produce any results, they destroy the possibility of cooperation between Europe and the Russian Federation, they inflict heavy losses on both economies, as well as on Bulgaria. “There is great hypocrisy in these sanctions. American sanctions do not affect, for example, the space programs, because the engines of American launch vehicles are Russian. At the same time, European countries lost their market in Russia, which in turn changed its course towards China and Asia. On the other hand, there is a ban on Russian parliamentarians traveling to the EU, and at the same time, let’s not forget how many times John Kerry was in Moscow in recent months,” Mikov said.
