The post also accused the CCP of “increasingly severely” restricting freedom of speech and people’s free access to information “through censorship, intimidation and surveillance of journalists and media workers” and urged the CCP to “obey the principle of peaceful demonstrations” power”.

In addition, the post also expressed concern about the human rights situation in Hong Kong. It pointed out that the Chinese Communist Party’s forced implementation of the National Security Law and the Sedition Ordinance in Hong Kong destroyed basic freedoms and eroded democratic principles and political pluralism. “The EU is particularly concerned about the trials of politicians and democrats, and is especially concerned about Jimmy Lai’s case,” and urges the Chinese Communist Party to “abide by the Basic Law of Hong Kong and China’s international obligations” and restore “one country, two systems.”

As soon as the post was published, it immediately attracted the attention of netizens. Many netizens left messages saying:

“In today’s chaotic era, the voice of justice and conscience is more needed”, “Thank you for speaking out”, “Fairness and justice”, etc., but they also attracted many insults from pinks and 50 cents.

The post was published at 8:08 a.m. on December 10, Beijing time, and has remained intact on Weibo for more than 24 hours. Compared with the previous situation where such posts would be “deleted instantly”, this can be said to be a miracle under the CCP’s strict Internet blockade and speech control.

Last week, Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping met with visiting European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. “Hong Kong 01” reported that Xi Jinping made many changes during this meeting.

First of all, in terms of public opinion offensive, the mainland media used intensive and large-scale reports to highlight Xi Jinping’s meeting with European leaders. This is different from previous meetings between Chinese and European leaders where more progress was disclosed first on the day of the meeting.

A few days ago, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China announced the holding of the “24th China-EU Leaders’ Meeting” and stated that “President Xi Jinping will meet with European Council President Michel and European Commission President von der Ryan. In fact, during the meeting with Xi Jinping last month, Xi Jinping’s government obviously expressed a friendly gesture and made considerable concessions, including resuming high-level military communication between China and the United States, jointly combating fentanyl, and promising not to use force against Taiwan in recent years. He even said that he would send pandas back to the United States, and so on. Xi Jinping has repeatedly stated that he is willing to be a friend of the United States, not a competitor.

Of course, the above changes are premised on the continued deterioration of China’s economy and the debt crisis.

YouTuber “Gongzi Shijing” believes that under such circumstances, the Cyberspace Administration of China does not dare to delete posts casually and does not dare to assume the responsibility of affecting diplomacy. It can only report it at various levels and wait for instructions from superiors. This may be why the post survives today.

Another point of view is that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China may not dare to directly order the deletion of the post, and the final decision on whether to delete the post may still need to be made by Xi Jinping.

So will Xi Jinping order the deletion of EU posts? After all, the EU has just taken the lead, and the CCP’s “efforts” in this meeting are also visible to the naked eye.
