The Estonian People’s Front, a mass people’s movement born 35 years ago, gave strength to the renewal of our society on the way to democracy, civil society and rights, to the freedom of our country and people. People’s Front of Estonia – it celebrated all those people who lived and live for Estonia; it was a breeding ground for ideas and initiatives that paved the way for the restoration of Estonia’s independence.
The Estonian Center Party, founded on the basis of the People’s Front, has been shaping Estonian politics for nearly 32 years both in our country at the level of state and local governments and in Europe. A lot has been done and achieved during this time, but a lot still needs to be done, because we are still living through revolutionary times. Estonia needs statesmanship and courage, reasonableness and balance even now. Estonia needs the Center Party as a unifier and balancer. Such a strong and united Central Party is necessary for the entire Estonian society, not for individual politicians.
The Center Party is facing an extraordinary congress. We, the signatories, valuing the popular spirit of unity, wish to see the Center Party as an important political force in the future as well. We want to see a political party that values its roots inherited from the People’s Front and always puts Estonia and its people first.
Tanel Kiik has shown his will to keep the party on this course and thereby contribute to the good of all of Estonia to the public with his actions and statements so far. Therefore, we invite the participants of the extraordinary congress of the Central Party to support Tanel Kiike for the position of party chairman. Expressing the belief that under his leadership the Center Party has an important role to play in our society, we wish the party success.
