The lawyer Édgar Baez denies the plagiarism of the thesis – El Financiero

Lawyer Édgar Báez Gutiérrez refused to have sent a letter in which he allegedly confessed to having plagiarized Minister Yasmín Esquivel’s degree thesis.

This letter had been used to exonerate the minister. However, the lawyer said in a second interview with the outlet Central axis what he didn’t write that letterin addition to the fact that no one contacted him to testify about it.

In this sense, the litigant reiterated that he never received the notary Armando Mastachi Aguario, who allegedly he would validate the letternor to Martha Rodríguez Ortiz, thesis supervisor for him and for Esquivel Mossa.

Minister Esquivel stressed that chad a statement before a notary from the other student in which she “acknowledged and expressly stated that ‘I have taken several references and texts from that work’”, which, according to her, proved her innocence.

However, the lawyer denied this requestassuring that the original author of the thesis had been him.

During the conversation, Báez argued that “logic explains everything: a person titling later cannot claim plagiarism of a previously published work. Not wanting to assimilate or understand it is to become a duck”.

In this way, Báez insisted on his innocencearguing that “logic dispels everything: the one that is titled first obviously has the original text”.

Minister Esquivel was accused of having plagiarized the thesis of Báez Gutiérrez, who graduated a year before her in law from the Faculty of Higher Studies (FES) of Aragon.

The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX) ignored the document released on Monday, ahead of a vote in the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), in which it allegedly ruled that Minister Yasmín Esquivel had not plagiarized his thesis.

This prosecutor has never ruled on the matter nor did it make public any conclusion that the complainant was plagiarized,” he wrote in a Twitter thread.

According to information shared in various media this Monday, the prosecution would have established that the person responsible for the plagiarism was Edgar Ulises Báez, the intern who presented the thesis a year before Esquivel (1986).

The conclusion contrasted with what was established by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), which after analyzing the contents of both theses, not only found that the level of coincidence was 90 percent, but also considered it highly probable that the original document was supported by Báez.
