A lawsuit has been filed in the United States for the murder of George Floid. The defendant’s bench – Minneapolis police officer Derek Shawen.
George Floid, who was black, died in May last year after police officer Shawen, who is white, held Floida’s knee on the ground for about nine minutes during his detention, although Floids repeatedly said he was short of breath.
Floida’s death sparked protests against racial inequality across the country.
The Chauven trial has now begun in Minneapolis. He has been charged with several murders.
In one, he is facing up to 40 years in prison on charges of second-degree murder. He denies the charges.
