As we have already reported, on April 16, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed the Law of Ukraine “On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine on certain issues of military service, mobilization and military registration.” And now – the Law is already published in the newspaper “Voice of Ukraine” April 17, which means it will come into force on May 18.
Let us recall that the corresponding government bill was registered under number 10449 on January 30 and caused heated discussion in society. After a difficult passage by parliamentary committees and the voting hall, the act turned into Law No. 3633-IX of 04/11/2024.
“Yes, there is increased control over evaders, but I want to tell you – any person, even without this law, who violated the law on mobilization and was of mobilization age, and he was an evader or did something else outside the law, he already violated this or that other current legislation. Here are some changes to some norms that will help the military leadership. There are questions not only regarding the mobilization of people, there are important issues of supporting the army, which is constantly at the front – leave, improving rotation, etc.,” – said Vladimir Zelensky.
Let us recall the key points of this act. Firstly, citizens from 25 to 60 years old are subject to mobilization. Secondly, men aged 18 to 60 years will be required to carry a military registration document with them at all times and present it at the request of a TCC representative or a police border guard.
Thirdly, all those liable for military service will have 60 days to clarify their current residential address, contact information and other military registration data. They can do this at the TCC, TsPAU or through an electronic account.
Among the motivational norms is the opportunity to independently choose a unit for those liable for military service who will sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense. Additional leave and remuneration are provided for the destruction/capture of enemy weapons or equipment. For annual main leave, the main continuous part must be at least 15 calendar days. The length of service will include one month of service per three months in the case of being directly in combat areas during martial law.
