The Latvian National Symphony Orchestra opens the 95th season / Article / LSM.lv

The Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) has opened the 95th season with compositions by Linda Liepiņa, Aleksandrs Skrjabins and Sergejs Prokofjevs.

It will be the last that the orchestra will spend at home in the Grand Guild and under the direction of the last conductor Andris Poga. But the beginning of the season is ambitious, and the new pianist Daumants Liepiņš shone especially brightly at the opening concert.

The concert was also attended by the former President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis with Mrs. Iveta Vējonis, who is the patroness of the LNSO, as well as the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Latvia Nauris Puntulis (National Union).

Daumants Liepiņi magazine “Pianist” has recognized it as one of the four young pianists, which is warmly recommended to follow in 2020. This opportunity was open to the audience at the opening concert of the LNSO season, where Liepiņš performed one of the most virtuoso piano concerts in the history of music – Prokofiev’s Second Piano Concerto. In addition, the concert featured Scriabin’s Second Symphony and a new work by LNSO resident composer Linda Leiman, “Longing. Flashing. Bonding ”.

According to the LNSO in a statement to the media, Linda Leimane writes smart and powerful music, which combines brilliant intelligence and versatile temperament with technical mastery. Linda’s list of compositions includes instrumental chamber music, ballet, electroacoustic works, music for chamber orchestra and large orchestra. Opuss Dialexica was nominated for the Grand Music Prize.

The opening concert kicked off the LNSO’s multifaceted autumn program. There, listeners will have the opportunity to enjoy both the Baltic Symphony Festival, where the LNSO will collaborate with Estonian conductor Kristina Poska and Lithuanian pianist Luka Genus, and the New Year’s concerts, where the youth choir “Kamēr…” and pianist Vestards Šimkas will also be able to see. The LNSO has not forgotten about young people and beginners of classical music, continuing the concert program “Symphonic hits with Goran Gora”, as well as the youngest listeners who are invited to a reunion with their beloved friend “LeNeSOnu”.
