The Latvian National Opera will host the international competition for young singers “Operalia” / art

The “Operalia” competition was founded in 1993 by Plácido Domingo to discover promising young opera singers of today and help them start their careers. “Operalia” aims to attract singers of all types of voices aged 18 to 32 from all over the world.

Hundreds of applications are submitted to the competition every year. The preselection jury listens to each entry and selects the best candidates to participate in the competition. 35 participants from countries such as Australia, United States, Belgium, Armenia, South Korea, Finland, Latvia, Mexico, Venezuela, United Kingdom, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, Spain, Russia, Mongolia, Germany, China will take part in the quarterfinals finale of “Operalia” at the Latvian National Opera and in Turkey. Latvia will be represented in the competition by baritone Daniils Kuzmins.

The international jury, chaired by Plácido Domingo, auditions each of the selected participants during the two-day quarter-finals. Twenty singers are then selected to enter the semifinals, while ten competitors are selected for the final. The quarter-finals and semifinals take place with piano accompaniment, while the final takes place as a celebratory concert accompanied by an orchestra.

The live broadcast of the final of the competition in Latvia will be provided by Latvijas Televīzija and Latvijas Radio 3 “Klasika”, but all over the world it is possible to follow the final of the competition on the Medici.tv channel.
