The Latvian indoor football team has determined its opponents in the World Cup qualification

The Latvian indoor football team will meet Slovakia and Germany in the main round of the 2024 World Cup qualification tournament, reports the Latvian Football Federation (LFF).

Slovakia played in the quarter-finals of this year’s European Championship, while Germany previously successfully passed the preliminary round. The teams will play a two-round tournament with home and away games. The 12 subgroup winners and the four best runners-up will enter the elite round, while the other eight second-placed teams will participate in the play-off stage of the main round. The Latvian national team was placed in the second of the three draw baskets in the main round draw.

The main round matches are scheduled for September, October and November this year, as well as at the turn of February and March next year. After that, the matches of the elite round will take place according to a similar format until December 2023. In the previous World Cup qualification tournament, the Latvian national team started from the preliminary round, which they successfully overcame, but in the main round they were behind the later champions Portugal and the Czech Republic. At that time, the selection competition took place according to the format of road races. In June, Montenegro specialist Vasko Vujovičs was confirmed as the head coach of the Latvian national indoor football team.
