On January 6 at 19.00 at the VEF Culture Palace in Riga, the event organized by the comedy association “Comedy Latvia” – Latvian Comedy Award “Grābeklis” will take place. Awards earned for the honor will be presented in nominations such as “Joke of the Year”, “Comedian of the Year” and “Event of the Year in Latvian Comedy”, “Non-Joke of the Year” and “Lifetime Contribution to Latvian Comedy”, which will be welcomed by old masters of humor Jānis Jarāns and Dainis Porgants, informs “Comedy Latvia” manager Edgars Žukovskis.
The first “Rake” took place early last year when only one person took to the stage standing comedians. “Although this way of presenting humor is great, it is time to appreciate and deservedly reward the comedy masters who present jokes in other formats. That is why this year we continue and complete this tradition, thus popularizing the development of comedy in Latvia”, comments E. Žukovskis on the need for the prize.
The audience in the room will vote on the title of the joke of the year, while anyone can vote for the comedian of the year online until January 6 at 12:00. standing a comedy fan. The rest of the awards will be decided by a jury of comedians.
The event will be hosted by “Comedy Latvia” co-founder Edgars Bāliņš, and this year will announce a record number of standing comedians – 14 from three comedian associations. “Comedy Latvia” will be represented by Rūdolfs Kugrēns, Kalvis Troska, Jānis Kreičmanis, Aleksandrs Guzenko, Jack Everit, Kārlis Strautiņš, Kaspars Žilins and Edgars Staškevičs. From “Riga stand-up” there will be Antons Gerasimovs, Aleksandrs Margolins and Valters Graviņš, while from “Sieviešu stand-up” – Aiva Birbele and Lydiareports E. Zhukovskis.
The theater of improvisation will be represented by Valdis Sils and Dzintars Rožkalns, while the association “We love you” with Ralf Eiland and Kaspar Breidak will smile at the audience with friendship and love. The popular podcast “Bize vaļa” will trace the development of Latvian comedy, but the musical aura will be provided by a DJ Everyone – Everything. There will also be a live music performance, but the performer is being kept a secret.
