The Norwegians Sturla Holm Legreid, Tarjei Bä, Vetle Sjostad Kristiansen and Johannes Tynjes Bä won, who finished in 1 hour, 10 minutes and 51.4 seconds, despite one penalty lap by Legreid. The second-placed Germans were 20.1 seconds behind, while the French team, which measured one penalty lap, lost 55.6 seconds to the winners, finishing third.
Renārs Birkentāls, Edgars Mise, Aleksandrs Patrijuks and Andrejs Rastorgujevs started in the Latvian quartet in the order of stages. In the 21-team competition, the Latvians managed without penalty laps, but additionally spent 10 spare cartridges.
Birkenthal shot perfectly in the first shooting range and continued the race in 13th position, 11.0 seconds behind the leader France.
The second shooting with the participation of Renard Birkenthal
Renard needed one extra round in the second firing line and returned to the track in 17th place, 46.4 seconds behind Frenchman Eric Perot who remained in the lead. He also handed over the baton to Misem in 17th position, being more than a minute behind former France at the time (+1:09.7).
Misem needed two spare rounds to cover all targets in the first shootout and left the firing line in 18th place, more than a minute and a half behind France (+1:34.0). In the next shooting range, Mise did not make a single mistake, but fell to the 19th position, where he also passed the baton to Patryuk, more than two minutes behind the leader France (+2:09.0).
Patryuks successfully completed the first shooting with two spare cartridges and moved up to 17th place, while the French kept their lead at the top of the leaderboards, followed by Germany and Norway. Patriuk needed three additional rounds in standing shooting, which dropped him to 18th position, while the Norwegians took over the leadership role. In the last relay change, the Germans were the fastest, while Rastorgujev went on the track in 17th place, almost three and a half minutes behind the leaders (+3:26.2).
Rastorgujev shot five targets lying down with six bullets and rose to 15th place. Having additionally spent two spare cartridges in the last shooting range, Andrejs returned to the 14th position on the track. By the finish, Rastorgujev regained another position and crossed the finish line three minutes and 48.3 seconds behind the winners.
The third of the five classical relays scheduled for the season took place in Ruopolding, but Latvian biathletes competed for the first time.
In the continuation of the fifth stage of the season, there will be a relay for ladies on Saturday, while at the end, on Sunday, both men and women will compete in distances with a joint start. Rastorgujevs will represent Latvia in the distance with a joint start.
