Renault has revealed the new generation of Espace. This time we are not talking about a minivan, but about an SUV in the true sense of the word.
The SUV market is booming and there seems to be no stopping it. Manufacturers focus on this type of car and even go so far as to turn famous names from their portfolio into SUVs. A very good example is the newly launched Renault Espace, a model that is now an SUV that will sit in the French manufacturer’s range above the Austral. We will also talk about the connection between these two models.
The new Renault Espace has metamorphosed into a family SUV and left behind the minivan concept, a concept adopted by the Espace since its initial launch in 1983. Now, 40 years after its debut, the Espace has transformed into an SUV with generous dimensions that can offer configurations of up to seven seats.
Renault Espace: the minivan is gone, the SUV is on the scene
On the outside, the new Renault Espace looks quite similar to another SUV that Renault brought to the market quite recently. It is about the Austral, a model with which the new Espace is related. We can see this from the exterior as well, as the Renault Espace shares design traits with its younger sibling, the Austral. Of course, the essential difference lies in the size of the two models.
The Espace is larger than the Austral and can also be ordered with seven seats. The similarities continue, and those who have had the opportunity to sit aboard an Austral will recognize a very similar design.
Easier and more efficient
Compared to the old generation, the new Renault Espace is somewhat shorter, but also much lighter. The sixth generation of the model is 215 kilograms lighter than the previous one, which should improve efficiency. The Espace SUV will be equipped with a hybrid engine with a maximum power of 200 hp, which should provide low consumption figures – 4.6 liters per hundred kilometers, according to Renault – and an autonomy of up to 1,100 kilometers . The new model is built on the CMF-CD platform and comes with 32 driver assistance systems. MULTI-SENSE and 4CONTROL Advanced, Renault’s four-wheel steering system, will be available on the new Renault SUV.
Orders for the new Renault Espace will start this spring.
