The most common computer on which people play games through the Steam platform includes a 6-core processor, 16 GB of RAM, a GeForce RTX 3060, a main monitor with a resolution of 1920×1080, more than 1 TB of storage and 64-bit Windows 10, or even an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset (VR run by every 55th Steam user). Linux improved by six-hundredths of a percent and a 1.97% share among OSes, largely driven by the continued growth of Steam Deck console sales.
Almost three-quarters of gamers have GeForce, 16% use Radeon, and 8% use something from Intel. Less than two thirds of users play on machines with Intel CPUs, the rest have AMD. On Linux, the situation is the opposite, Intel CPUs hold a roughly 30% share, the rest belongs to AMD. The vast majority of Linux users have 4 physical CPU cores, roughly 14% each have 6×CPU and 8×CPU machines, roughly every 40th Linux user has a 16-core processor, and three times as many still use a dual core. From an instructional point of view, the share of processors with AVX-512 is slightly increasing, which should indicate a growing share of the latest generation Ryzens.
