Egyptian objection to the United Nations
In a letter to the UN Security Council, Egypt had warned of cracks extending in the concrete facade of the sub-dam linked to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. It also registered an objection to the United Nations and announced its total rejection of Ethiopia’s continuation of filling the Renaissance Dam unilaterally without an agreement with it and Sudan.
Cairo said that this is an explicit violation of the 2015 Declaration of Principles agreement and a grave violation of the applicable rules of international law, which obligate Ethiopia, as the upstream country, not to harm the rights of downstream countries.
She indicated that she had sought, during the negotiations that took place over the past years, to reach a fair and equitable agreement on the Renaissance Dam, but Ethiopia failed all the efforts and endeavors that were made to resolve this crisis.
