Zaporozhye Automobile Plant practically stopped its activity many years ago: the enterprise produced a small number of cars in recent years. However, soon it can not only restore production, but arrange the assembly of a large number of machines. The reason is that Ukraine has a duty-free trade agreement with Europe.
This norm will possibly bring the Zaporozhye Automobile Plant to the EU market. And one of the first models can be a full-fledged crossover ZAZ-966 “Sakura” 2023-2024, the publication of renderings of which was announced by a domestic designer. The car itself with a high degree of probability will be created on the basis of a certain Chinese model. It is the manufacturer from China who will undertake the restoration of the Zaporozhye Automobile Plant, as this will allow it to relatively easily enter the European market.
The important thing is that by concluding a cooperation agreement with ZAZ, the Chinese company will be able to supply really inexpensive cars to the EU, which will make them competitive here. At the same time, the manufacturer from China will not sell cars assembled on the territory of the Zaporozhye Automobile Plant under its own brand. This is due to several reasons, one of them is the expected introduction of restrictive measures by the EU against the Chinese auto industry. And by releasing ZAZ models, the future partner of the enterprise will be able to legally bypass this restriction.
It is not yet known what the new Sakura will be like. It is more likely that this crossover will receive either a hybrid installation or electric motors. Both types of units are in high demand in the EU. That is, by releasing, for example, a hybrid Sakura at an affordable price, the Chinese manufacturer will create a truly competitive car.
