BruggeThe Pieter Aspe Day has started in Bruges City Hall. You can buy the latest Van In all day long, participate in walks or meet extras from the TV series.

The day started with the presentation of the latest book ‘Van In, Episode 5′. That book is the last to be written by the regretted author from Bruges. Pieter Aspe passed away on May 1 this year at the age of 68. He was by far Flanders’ most successful thriller author. “He is an icon that we want to honor with this special day”, says Bruges mayor Dirk De fauw (CD&V). “Actually, we should have all been here last year to celebrate Pieter Aspe’s 25th anniversary as a writer. But that was canceled due to the corona pandemic. Fans and readers still get the chance to say one last goodbye today.”

Pieter Aspe’s wife Tamara Hanegraaf was presented with a pedigree chart from the Bruges Family Studies Association. It contains the family history of the Aspeslag family, as the author was really called. The many words of sympathy and love visibly pleased the woman. For the earliest attendees, there were 300 goodie bags containing the new book, an Aspe glass and some gadgets from the city of Bruges. Fans can purchase the book in the City Hall between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

In addition, there are also guided and free walks from the guide association S-Wan and you can visit the Chapel of the Holy Blood, the place where Aspe was once a concierge. In the municipal library De Biekorf there is a small exhibition about the author. Later today, the extras who were once seen in the VTM series will gather on the Burg.
