The last session of the stock exchange of the year brought increases in indices, thus sealing an upward week. The end of the year leaves a positive impression and we hope that the boom has not said the last word yet.

Trading on Thursday started with a slightly positive opening slightly above yesterday’s close. By noon, the Warsaw indices had dropped a bit lower, sometimes losing approx. 0.5 percent. as in the case of the WIG20. Ultimately, in the afternoon, most European trading floors were dominated by green, which, combined with the demand-driven opening in the US, determined the shape of the session.

The WIG20 managed to climb above yesterday’s close, gaining 0.28 percent. and ends the year at 2,266.92 points. WIG thanks to an increase of 0.21 percent. reached 69,296.26 points. Due to the weakness of the largest “shareholder” in the portfolio of medium-sized companies, mWIG40 lost 0.15%, which means the level of 5,291.72 points. The third upward session in a row led to the sWIG80 index 0.6%. above and allowed to end the year of market struggle with 20,056 points. The “youngest” WIG140 is 0.2 percent higher. The turnover generated by the market reached almost PLN 795 million, and slightly more than PLN 520 million related to large companies.

In the index of the largest companies, Thursday was a quiet trade without any spectacular breakouts or sharp drops. WiG20 components split 9 to 11 in favor of growing companies.

Their leader was the Dino exchange rate (2.34%), which was already returning to form, which is already looking towards historical highs. CD Projekt also showed good results (1.46%), which publishes a series of announcements about Goldman Sachs’ derivative financial operations. The last report was released on Wednesday after the close of trading. Santander (1.34%), Tauron (1.3%) and PKO BP (1.19%) also grew above one percent. Demand also appeared on Pekao, Asseco, Lotos and Orlen oil, as well as LPP and CCC clothing.

Allegro shareholders may be less satisfied (-2.36%), which has been consolidating under PLN 40 for several sessions. Mercator’s price was lower (-2.02%). Weaker session also for miners: JSW (-1.77%) and KGHM (-1.62%). Orange, PZU, PGNiG, PGE and Cyfrowy Polsat gave less than 1 percent.

In terms of the sector, representatives of the real estate sector (1.01%), banks (0.76%), games (0.67%) and the automotive sector (0.62%) performed best. Mining (-1.60%), media (-0.96%), construction (-0.93%), chemicals (-0.69%) and IT (-0.68%) were at the end of the year on the supply side of the market.

The historic high from November was attempted in the morning to beat ING, but after an unsuccessful attempt to exceed PLN 280, the rate dropped for the rest of the day and ended with a decline of 3.61 percent.

In turn, mBank tried to be a counterweight and added 3.49 percent. Alior (1.3%) also helped. Sanok shares continued to grow (5.10%) and Rafako ended the session higher (5.19%). The mood swings on the shares of Getin Bank (-8.45%), the main shareholder of the failing Open Finance.

The Satis price (11.76%) also joined the growing group of leaders, but there was no significant information from the company either.

Open Finance was on the opposite side of the market (-46.04 percent),
who filed for bankruptcy. It is another year in a row when the company from Leszek Czarnecki’s “stable” leaves its shareholders in a sombre mood before New Year’s Eve. Invista (-10.20%), Investment Friends (-26.47%) also stood out.

At the opening of the US session, the indices climbed further after yesterday’s records. The S & P500 was up 0.24%, the Nasdaq gained 0.15% and the Dow Jones increased by 0.5%.

New Year’s Eve sessions will not be held in Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Norway, Japan, Germany, Spain, Sweden and Italy. Trade will be shortened in Australia, UK, New Zealand, France, Romania and Slovakia. American stock exchanges are working normally on this day.
