/ world today news/ The Minister of Agriculture Rumen Porozhanov proposes an amendment to the Law on the Ownership and Use of Agricultural Lands, which removes the last restrictions on the sale of agricultural land to foreigners in our country, reported a BGNES reporter.
The amendment is also necessary because of the criminal procedure initiated by the European Commission against Bulgaria for violation of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
The adoption of the amendment will allow Bulgarian and EU citizens, individuals and legal entities, citizens of third countries to be able to realize their investment intentions related to the purchase of agricultural land without the need to have resided or been established in Bulgaria more than 5 years.
“In view of the initiated criminal procedure against Bulgaria, in the event that the country does not take action and refuses to amend the legislation currently in force, according to the current Communication of the Commission in connection with the calculation of the one-time payable sums and periodic property sanctions, the minimum one-time payable amount for Bulgaria is 839,000 euros. Cumulatively, with this sanction, a periodical property sanction (which is charged for each day of inaction on the part of the convicted state) in the minimum amount of 660 euros can be imposed”, it is clear from the motives of the petitioner, with which the amendment of the legislation is proposed.
