The Last of Us Part II Remastered would not have hindered Naughty Dog’s new projects

Last Friday (17), Naughty Dog announced The Last of Us Part II Remastered for PS5, which will come with a new roguelike mode. Many players questioned the need for remastering, especially because it would possibly hinder the development of new games and/or franchises. However, the studio would not have lost focus on these unreleased projects.

According to Jordan Middler, journalist and host of the VGC podcast, the remaster was produced by devs recently hired by Naughty Dog. According to him, the reason would be for these employees to get used to the company’s work routine. Meanwhile, the core team (led by Neil Druckmann) takes charge of an original game.

From what I was told from one person, this was more of a project for new hires to get them in the game. Druckman’s team is full steam ahead on an original. One doesn’t takeaway from the other afaik

From what I heard of one person, [The Last of Us Part II Remastered] was a project for newbie devs, so they could get used to [com a rotina de trabalho]. Druckmann’s team is completely focused on an original game. One thing doesn’t get in the way of the other, as far as I know.

Druckmann himself has already confirmed working on a new title, which would be single-player. As The Last of Us 2’s multiplayer would be in paused development, Middler’s news would make sense.

Important: Neither Naughty Dog nor Sony have stated that The Last of Us Part II Remastered is being developed by newly hired devs. Therefore, it is safest to treat this article as a rumor.
