Shopping in the pre-Christmas week will make us understand how much our money has lost value. We will find out how much the real value of the average wage has decreased over the past year, when the Central Bureau of Statistics provides data on the pace of wage growth.
The release of November payroll data is scheduled for Tuesday. Data for October showed the median wage was 13% higher than a year earlier. With inflation hovering around 18%, that meant just that real wages are decreasing at a rate that has not been seen in Poland for many years, and in this respect it is even better than in most developed countries.
Unfortunately, losses in our portfolios should increase. Announced a peak in inflation above 20% heralds an even greater decline in real wages in the next months.
Store visits in the new week will make customers aware that they can buy less with their paychecks than last year. According to data from the Central Statistical Office food prices increased by 22% over the yearwhich is faster than average. Furthermore, independent estimates indicate that “Christmas” food items have become even more expensive in the last year, by almost 30%. The record price increase also applies to carp, so it’s no surprise that surveys show it this fish will go to almost one million Polish tables this year less than last year. We can’t even count on lower fuel prices in the new week. According to forecasts, you will have to pay almost PLN 7.70 for a liter of diesel and PLN 6.50 for petrol.
Experts remember this higher VAT returns from the new year for fuels and assess that the lack of significant reductions recently, despite a significant drop in the price of oil and the strengthening of the zloty, is a preparation for the return of full VAT. This is indirectly confirmed by the president of Orlen, who dictates the pricing conditions on the Orlen market. This was announced by Daniel Obajtek The company is working to stabilize prices and no significant price increases are expected after the new year.
In the new week we can expect continuation of the dispute on the contract with Saudi Aramco relating to the sale of the shares in the Gdansk refinery. According to the opposition, the deal raises serious doubts. Orlen assures that everything was done in accordance with the law.
