In July 1997, we had completed the relocation of our NBA Europe offices from Geneva, opposite Balexert, to rue de la Boétie, Paris VIIIe. Our team of collaborators was well established in Switzerland since 1993 but the time had come to position itself in the French capital to be more efficient in our daily management, especially for major events.
We were particularly focused on the McDonald’s Championship, the unofficial Club World Championship, which was to take place in October in Bercy. We had already organized the arrival of the Phoenix Suns in Munich (1993) and that of the Houston Rockets in London (1995). But there it was going to be unprecedented: the Chicago Bulls and their global star, Michael Jordan. When they were traveling, it was like a traveling circus or a tour of rock stars, attracting delirious crowds and media coverage never reached in each city visited.
