Venom‘s Final Stand: A Glimpse into the Symbiote’s Explosive Demise
The latest installment of Sony’s Marvel saga, Venom: The Last Dance, wrapped up Eddie Brock and his symbiotic partner’s story with a visually stunning climax that is now generating buzz thanks to behind-the-scenes insights from Industrial Light & Magic (ILM).
While the film sparked debate among fans, no one could deny the spectacle of Venom’s ultimate confrontation with the Xenophage, a creature so monstrous it threatened Earth’s very existence.
ILM has released a series of images showcasing the meticulous detail that went into rendering Venom’s final, gargantuan form. In the film’s explosive finale, Venom separates from Eddie to engulf the Xenophage, plunging with it into a fiery acid shower that annihilates both beings.
Adding to the devastating spectacle, Rex Strickland, seeking to ensure the Xenophage’s complete destruction, detonates himself alongside the two alien entities. This climactic scene also saw Venom’s "Codex" – containing vital information – destroyed, seemingly trapping the entity Knull on the planet Klyntar. It’s a deliciously ambiguous ending for the franchise, leaving some fans wondering if Venom truly perished.
"Well, Knull created the Xenophage and he also created the Symbiotes. I kind of loved the idea that the thing that was hunting Venom and Eddie is Venom’s sister," director Kelly Marcel shared last month. She further elaborated, revealing, “I think the Xenophage is a she. We referred to her as Elaine during the shooting.”
Marcel also discussed the fascinating design of the Xenophage, a beast with a hunger as insatiable as her appearance.
"I just loved the idea of them and then as Tom and I were discussing the character of the Xenophage, we came up with the idea that they had these woodchipper mouths and whatever they ate spat out the back of some vent in her head,” Marcel explained.
“As soon as we came up with that, we just thought that would be the most fun thing to see on screen and that she would be an awesome thing to fight for them.”
Venom: The Last Dance, a thrilling conclusion to the Venom trilogy, sees Tom Hardy reprise his role as the complex and compelling symbiote. The film is a runaway art of destruction and redemption as Eddie and Venom are pushed to their absolute limits.
