The Spanish Ministry of Health registered an additional 11,291 new infections, 4,541 of which correspond to the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 625,651, having officially surpassed the 600,000 cases on Tuesday.
According to the ministry’s count, Madrid continues to lead in the number of new cases detected, registering 1,613 new infections, followed by the Basque Country with 551 daily cases and Andalusia with 521 infections in the last 24 hours.
Spain adds an additional 162 deaths to the official count, which means that the total figure is already around 30,405 deaths, according to the balance made a few moments ago by the country’s authorities.
It must be taken into account that these data do not include those who died on lates or who did not perform the diagnostic test despite having symptoms compatible with the viral disease.
Italy
Italy has recorded 1,585 infections with the new coronavirus in the past 24 hours, up from 1,452 on Wednesday, as well as 13 new fatalities, according to the Italian Ministry of Health.
Since the covid-19 pandemic appeared in the country on 21 February, there have been 293,025 infections, which have caused 35,658 deaths, according to Italian authorities.
The number of active cases in Italy is now 41,413, with 2,348 people admitted to hospitals, 63 more than on Wednesday.
In turn, the number of inpatients in intensive care also continues to increase, having reached 212 today, five more than the previous day.
The regions with the most cases detected on the last day were Lombardia, with 281 new cases, followed by Campania with 195 new infections and Lazio with 181 daily cases.
UK
The UK has recorded 3,395 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 381,614 since the pandemic began in the country, according to the British Ministry of Health.
With regard to deaths, another 21 were counted, currently totaling 41,705 fatalities.
These data represent a decrease in the number of daily cases compared to the previous day, where 3,991 new infections were registered. Deaths increased slightly, since 20 deaths were recorded yesterday.
There are currently 988 patients admitted to hospitals, 124 of whom are in intensive care units. The total number of patients who have already been hospitalized reaches 136,325.
France recorded 10,593 new cases in the last 24 hours, which represents a new daily “record”. The total number of infections in the country has thus increased to 415,481, the Ministry of Health reported this Thursday.
The previous maximum recorded was 10,561 new cases in one day, this Saturday, the 12th of September. The sharp increase is the result of a higher infection rate, but also a considerable increase in testing. Free trials of covid-19 have generated long queues at centers across France.
There were another 50 deaths due to the new coronavirus in this country – the second highest number in two months, after the 80 deaths reported on 9/11. The number of deaths recorded in France increased to 31,095.
The covid-19 pandemic has already killed more than 942,000 people and infected nearly 30 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
In Portugal, there were 10 more deaths related to covid-19 and 770 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus today, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS). Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has recorded 1,888 deaths and 66,396 cases of infection.
